Book Description:
Predator and prey...one reluctant
mate.
Cody Sanderson wasn't looking for
a life on the run, but one mistake has cost him his freedom. If he gets caught,
it might cost him his life. The man he hooked up with for a night wasn't a man
after all, but a beast intent on owning Cody.
But Cody isn't anyone's to keep.
He will evade capture and die before he lets himself be caged by a monster.
When he's finally caught, he thinks he's about to be taken to the one man he
doesn't want to see ever again. Instead, he's offered protection and a solution
that will keep him safe.
The only thing is, he'd have to
be mated to one of the very things he feared most—a wolf shifter. Cody's not so
sure the risk is worth taking.
Excerpt:
It was happening
again. Cody Sanderson fought against the instinct to turn and look behind him.
The uncomfortable sensation of being watched made his spine itch. He finished
the last of his beer and set the bottle on the grungy table. The bar he’d
stopped in at was a few steps below a dive, not the kind of place he’d hung out
at in Texas at all. He’d hoped that would throw Ansel off his trail. Maybe it
had, and whoever watched Cody had nothing to do with Ansel at all.
Or maybe Ansel
had found him. Again.
Cody wiped his
mouth and pushed to his feet. The legs of the chair scraped noisily on the
uneven floor, timed, much to his displeasure, with a pause in the country music
that had been blaring from an ancient-looking jukebox a half dozen feet away.
Cody hadn’t been listening to the song—it’d been a background noise to his own
chaotic thoughts—and he didn’t know if the song had ended naturally or if
someone had stopped the music. Perhaps he was being paranoid, but paranoia was
all that had kept him alive thus far.
He kept his head
down as he pushed the chair back in, a ridiculous thing to do in a bar like
this one. Old habits and ingrained manners made him do it, though, and he felt
like it marked him as the outsider he was. It was definitely past time for him
to get out of there.
The jukebox
didn’t start up again as he made his way toward the exit. Cody’s skin prickled
with goosebumps as he walked. The utter lack of conversations made him want to
run screaming from the place. He felt like everyone watched him, and if they
were, it couldn’t mean anything good for him at all.
He tried to
think, to pinpoint if he’d done anything that might have made him a target
there. Nothing came to mind. He hadn’t done more than order a beer and a
burger, had been careful not to smile or stare anyone in the eyes for longer
than necessary. Keeping his gaze averted would have marked him as prey as
surely as staring too long would have.
What a crazy,
unbelievable world to live in. And he’d had no idea just how crazy and
unbelievable until he’d stumbled upon Ansel’s secret. For that bit of
stupidity, he’d have to spend the rest of his life on the run, on the lookout.
If he survived
tonight. His footsteps seemed abnormally loud as he strode toward the door. The
scents of stale beer and cigarette smoke paled against the rancid sweat odor
that clung to him. If Cody could smell his own fear, then so could any predators.
He struggled to
keep from running, to keep his steps even. Showing fear would be a mistake he
might not survive. His palms were slick as he reached for the door handle, but
he didn’t lose his grip on it. Cody opened the door, and the crisp, cold air
that greeted him chilled him to the bone.
He stepped
outside. The sound of the door closing behind him didn’t ease his fears any.
Every one of his senses was on alert; Cody had learned to listen to his
instincts in the past few months. He held himself still, barely daring to
breathe as he waited. When music blared suddenly from inside the bar, Cody bit
back a yelp but couldn’t repress his body’s reaction otherwise. He jolted as if
he’d been jabbed with a cattle prod, and it broke his reserve, sending him
running to his motorcycle.
Stop running.
Cody told
himself that over and over again, but he knew he’d never be safe, and he’d only
be able to stop running when he was captured by Ansel or dead. Given those two
choices, he knew which one he’d prefer.

Betrayed and abandoned by those I love, and captured by the enemy, I learned death is a privilege, not a right. Nursing my vengeance and honing my hate is all I can do. Then he appears, turning my black and white world upside down.
Scar Greyback is Alpha to the largest werewolf clan in the region. Scar’s dominance frightens me, excites me. One touch and I know I’m his. His to possess and control, maybe even to love, but I can’t yield. I’ve been bred and trained all my life as a soldier to hunt his kind. Accepting his mating call will doom us both, but once I start on this road to hell, I can’t stop.

Excerpt:
Hanging naked with nothing but blood, grime, and sweat clinging to my skin, and chains lashing my limbs to the rusty eyebolt on the ceiling, I recalled my beautiful mother’s words.
God gives only gives us what we can take. My mother whispered those words when she tucked me in bed, along with other poisonous ones. Grow strong, Gabriel. Be my avenging angel. Think of your father, your uncle, your brother. Every one of the fallen needs our prayers, she said. Harden your body and heart, because our enemies will show you no mercy.
It’s the first time I felt true despair, but not my last. Two other bolts lie close to mine, empty of captives, but even my human nose caught the tell-tale scent of copper, spilled blood.
To remain sane, I thought of other matters, anything to distract myself from my inevitable death. Death has no favorites, the master of arms back at the citadel always said. Still, the previous two occupants on either side of me must have wished their demise didn’t come too soon. Are they still alive, screams gagged by the endless rock walls and passages of Santa Olivia, the underground home of the city’s most prominent animal groups?
“Fuck this.”
Hearing the sound of my voice startled me. I hardly recognized myself. Had I always sounded so weak? I twisted in my chains, but it was futile. These chains are built to hold supernatural captives, but I’m only human. There’s no longer any fight in me. The fire in me has gone out, since the moment my friends and allies betrayed me to the hands of the enemy.
I whispered their names to the darkness, not as a prayer seeking salvation, but as a curse. “Rafael. Michael. Pedro. Abraham.”
Every member of the Soldier of God is christened with the name of an angel or saint. Don’t ask me why. What we’re doing is for the good of humanity, our elders often liked to say, but the truth? Few of the soldiers believed in noble deeds. Most hunted the supernatural down not to cleanse the city of abominations, but because killing is all we’re good at. What we’d been bred for.
Die a noble death, a worthy one, some of my brothers and sisters would say, but it was no longer funny once real fear kicked in. The sound of the heavy bolt to the holding cell shifting made me still.
“Calm the fuck down,” I hissed, but my body refused to obey.
My heart quickened and my breaths came short. I’m Gabriel. Twenty-one-year-old Soldier of God and today’s the day I die.

Sometimes the moon shines brighter than the stage.
Connor ‘CJ’ Lamont is at the top of his game playing the bad boy of country music. The problem with his ultimate redneck persona is that… well, he’s not. CJ is a wickedly smart songwriter and musician who suffers from an excess of personality. He lives, not for the spotlight, but for the three months of downtime each year when he can finally be himself.
Sexy werewolf Lee Mills is hired as CJ’s new security to keep him safe and assure that he stays on the medication he’s been on since birth. But when Connor’s parents see sparks fly between their son and his new security guard, they are intent on keeping the wolf at bay. Of course, Mills isn’t used to taking orders, at least not from anyone who isn’t his pack alpha, and he has no intention of following the rules.
In fact, if Mills has his way, he’ll be smashing the spotlight and showing Connor the moon.

Excerpt:
Connor did his market shopping—shrimp, rum cake, and root veggies and those neat little brown sugar candy deals—before heading out to the beach house. It sat there like a faded jewel, the turquoise paint beaten down by the sun. It was little, simple, nowhere a famous asshole would live.
Connor loved it.
All he had to do was eat and swim and lounge in the sun. Oh, he had his guitar and in a few days the itch to write would be on him. For now, though, he wanted fruit. Rum.
He dumped the food in the fridge, poured himself a piña colada and headed out to his chair to soak up some sunshine.
Connor stopped short when he saw the long, well-muscled man who was stretched out on a tiny air mattress across from his lounger. “Hope you got enough food for two people,” the guy said, sitting up and running a hand through a shock of dark brown hair.
“This is private property, dude. It’s posted.” Connor wasn’t stupid. He knew this was security man, but he wasn’t fucking at work.
“I know. Not a bad setup. I can work with it without losing any of your aesthetic.”
He turned without a word and went back inside, locking the door behind him. He could call the police, but that seemed less than fair. This guy was working, doing his job. He could give it a day or two, see if the guy gave up. He could find another place, maybe another beach.
Christ.
He just wanted a break.
The door opened seconds later. “Nathan gave me a key. Look, I’m not here to make your life shit. In fact, I’ve gone over all the scenarios and decided not to hire a team like they want me to. As far as anyone knows, I’m a buddy of yours down on vacay with you. Hence the beach get-up.”
Connor glanced at Mr. Security again, who looked like something out of the International Male catalog in a pair of soft linen pants and nothing else. His accent, though, that was pure Deep South.
“I didn’t hire you. Just go home, tell my mom I’m fine, and collect your paycheck, man. I won’t tell anyone.”
“Yeah, and if you got shot or messed up or something, I would never work again.” The guy stepped up into his personal space and thrust a hand at him. “Mills.”
He shook instinctively, then pulled away. Nathan wasn’t his buddy anymore. In fact, he hoped Nathan’s retirement sucked. Okay. Connor was going to his bedroom and then he was going to create a plan that didn’t involve having a babysitter.
He was a smart dog. He could do this.

Excerpt
When I got to my apartment, I wasn’t feeling any better. I was restless and hurting and angry as fuck and their mixed scents in my place weren’t doing me any favors. I fumbled with the backpack I had dropped on the floor of my living room, trying to find my phone. I was greeted by a dozen or more messages from Vicks, one of my twin’s mates. Since she had mated my brother she had this weird connection to me too and could feel whenever I was experiencing strong emotions for an extended period. I assumed everything that had happened since yesterday would qualify for that. I sent a quick “I’ll be fine” type of reply to stop her from harassing me and went through my contacts.
Even if I hadn’t called that particular number in a couple of months, it was still at the top of my favorites list. He was my best friend since childhood, so it made sense I’d call him more than anyone else. It just hit me then that I’d been so lost in my own life, I barely had time to catch up with him or my family unless something critical was going on. I pressed the call button and plastered the phone to my ear, pacing around the room as it rang a few times.
“Come on, Blake, fucking pick up!” I hung up and tried again. I really needed to talk to my best friend right now. It rang twice and went straight to voicemail. Hearing Blake’s voice brought tears to my eyes and something snapped inside of me.
“Blake, I wish you’d have picked up the phone.” I laughed softly, shaking my head. “It’s funny, I think this is the first time I call you and you don’t pick up. Either way… thanks for being my friend, chibi. I… I don’t….” I lowered the hand that was holding my phone and let my head fall back, taking a few deep breaths. “Blakey, tell everyone I love them and… yeah, those who know me, really know me, will understand. Sayonara, chibi-tan.”
I hung up and let the rage take over. I turned around at impossible speed and threw the phone with a loud roar. It hit the wall and shattered into a million pieces. I was crying. I knew because I could feel the heaves and tears, but the crushing pain was battling with the anger taking over my mind. I had lost my soul and my reason to live when I’d lost Kieran and Kayden. What was left of me was nothing more than the warrior inside. A true samurai would not waste away, waiting for death to claim him at the end of a miserable life. He’d die in battle, an honorable death his final legacy.
My twin, Shishou, my co-beta, Ren, my sister, even Blake… they’d get it, they’d explain it properly to my children. They probably won’t understand, just like I hadn’t when my parents had left us. I prayed that unlike their father, they would never get to a point in life where they’d understand this decision of mine. It meant they’d go through a world of pain and that was the last thing I wanted for Ryuu and Kimmie.
I took off everything but my jeans. No point in having anything else on. Werewolf rules were sometimes mind-boggling. You could shift into your wolf and back, and you always kept one item of clothing. The picks were random and you might be left in nothing but your underwear. Or keep a tight top and nothing else to cover your lower body. It was wise to choose your own clothes for the occasion. I then promptly flashed to the weapons room in the Alpha mansion, right in front of the wall display of my father’s katana. I kneeled before it, my legs spread, and then bowed deeply. Getting up, I closed the small distance between me and my objective and removed the katana. I glanced at the wakizashi he always used to wear with his katana. Double sword, traditional samurai sign. I decided I’d use them both, just as he had in his final battle. I unsheathed the two blades and adjusted my grip. With a final bow, I flashed out.
When I took form at my destination, a small shiver coursed through my body. It was pretty cold out here. Well, northern mountains in Mongolia weren’t known for their excessive heat in the middle of autumn.
I had chosen Siberian Killer territory, the fastest way to pick a fight with other werewolves. The one rule they had was any shifter that stepped foot on their territory would be killed. Here I was, standing tall, all focused, muscles bulging under the strain and excitement of an impending battle, taunting whoever was nearby.
