Excerpt:

"I can feel how agitated you are. I cannot ignore it."

"Really? You sat by my bedside for days, but when it's time for me to wake up, you're nowhere to be found." Hadrian frowned and averted his eyes.

"I've been out for two days now, and I haven't seen a hint of you on board. I'd say you've been ignoring me just fine."

Liam wasn't shaking anymore. Frustration had turned into anger over the last few days. When Danverse told him of Hadrian watching over him, he began to get hopeful that the mysterious man was getting past whatever bullshit he was holding onto, and Liam might actually get to know him. But as everyone else on board looked in on him, one person was absent.

And now here he was trying to convince Liam he gave a shit.

A furrowed brow and twitching grimace spoiled Hadrian's expression. The regal poise Liam had associated with him was melting as he shifted his weight from one foot to the other. Hadrian seemed unaccustomed to this level of awkwardness, the words somehow frozen on his tongue. His mouth opened and closed as the explanation Liam was waiting for never emerged.

"Have a good night, Mr. Jamison," Liam snarled as he shouldered past, using his larger size to voice his resentment.

It probably wasn't the smartest move to bully the man. No matter how much bigger Liam was, there was no doubt as to who would win in a fight. Hadrian's tattooed arm snapped out, gripping Liam's wrist. The hallway spun as Liam was shoved into a shallow maintenance service alcove. Hadrian's arms pinned Liam's with shocking strength.

"I am trying to apologize, damn it!" Hadrian shouted. The tension and remorse were written in his eyes. If Liam weren’t so annoyed, he might have taken it better. Hadrian's hands were in the perfect spot to negate any leverage Liam could use to free himself. That didn't stop him from struggling.

"Why the fuck are you here?" Liam demanded.

"Because I cannot stay away from you no matter how bad an idea it is. I could feel your desire the moment we met. Like nearly everyone else's on board. I was content to travel to Alpha Centauri in peace, but no. You had to be a decent human being. You had to show me that you genuinely wanted to help me. I do not know what to do with that." Hadrian's normally composed countenance was eroding as his voice rose with a sound that had a blend of anger and predatory heat in it.

"I should keep to myself and move along. I should be minding my own business and not involving you in the disaster that my life may yet become. But the longer I stay on this ship, the more I find myself wanting to know you." Hadrian took a deep breath as his eyes began to smolder. "Personally and biblically."

MannRamblingspic-225x300About the Author

Like many gay men, when Mann Ramblings grew up, there weren’t any heroes he could relate to. The world held him back while he tried futilely to hide the real person inside. So much has changed since those hollow days. He finally found his voice, the voice that says it’s all right to revel in the so-called inappropriate joys, laughs, and loves that storm inside a man’s head. It took a long time to find that courage and now that it’s here, he plans to use it well.

While spending years more focused on visual arts, he never let go of his innate passion for storytelling—he wanted to write and draw comic books when he grew up. Once he discovered M/M fiction, a whole new world opened with new possibilities. Why couldn’t you have fantastic and dynamic tales with an M/M cast? He started reading the online tales of authors like, Night Tempest, Rob Colton, and Alicia Nordwell, which only fueled within him the need to create. Eventually he found GayAuthors.org, and with a little coercive nudge from Night Tempest, started sharing his tales with an unexpected level of positive response.

That experience and support gave him the courage to cross his fingers and aim for the world of M/M publishing.

Born and raised in Michigan, Mann Ramblings continues to type away, wishing it was practical to use a noisy, old fashioned keyboard that clacks with each strike, if only to annoy his loving partner and spoiled miniature dachshund.

Blurb:

Morgan Drake is the only witness to a murder in an alleyway. Nik Valentinov works for Sanctuary, a foundation offering witness protection to anyone whose safety is compromised. Morgan discovers a bodyguard's arms can offer more than protection.

Morgan Drake witnesses a murder in an alleyway. He is the only person who can give evidence in prosecuting the cop responsible for the crime. When the FBI safe house where he's being held is compromised, he follows the instructions of the agent in charge and runs.

Nik Valentinov works for Sanctuary, a foundation that offers witness protection when FBI security is questionable.

When Morgan's handler sends him to Nik for safety, neither Morgan nor Nik could imagine that two weeks alone in a cabin in the woods would have their hearts racing with something much more than merely trying to keep Morgan alive.

***

Excerpt:

Taylor and Morgan had only been talking before bed. Morgan had been looking for the reassurances he remained safe, and Taylor had been only able to say he would do everything in his power to keep Morgan safe. Should anything happen, or go wrong, he knew of another man, another agency quite separate from the FBI, to help Morgan. A private agency called Sanctuary. Only brought in at the worst of times, it was there as an option if needed. A friend of his now worked for Sanctuary, an agency providing protection for people in need. Actually more than a friend. His ex-FBI partner. Morgan waved the information away, naively so it turned out later.

"How can anything go wrong? I'm with the FBI, the trial is in two weeks, and then everything will be normal again."

"Even the FBI can be compromised, Morgan. Don't you watch TV?" Taylor had a serious expression on his face. Now, with Taylor lying shot, and possibly dead, on the floor of the house, all Morgan could concentrate on was the list of directions he needed to remember, the promise of some mystical safety within his reach.

He waited for the sedan to make a U-turn and come at him with some bad guy hanging out of the window with a gun, but instead the indicators flashed and the car left the highway. Morgan's breathing stayed erratic and panicked sounding, despite how much he tried to settle it, fueled by the pain in his chest, his left arm, and his throbbing head. He didn't want to chance the radio. Music might help him find some composure, but shit, what if it meant he didn't remember the words in the right order? He'd probably end up in Canada or something, the bad guys chasing him down and taking him out of the equation in some blood and gore shootout.

Yes, Morgan watched the TV procedural cop shows with clever detectives or FBI suits who flouted the law and kept the little man on the street safe. He also saw the first witnesses in these shows were inevitably shot between the eyes, the last link in evidence on a high profile murder case. He'd also seen that sometimes the FBI agent was corrupt and a cop could end up on the wrong side of the law. He liked those shows. He simply didn't want to be in one of those shows.

"Twenty, one sixty-six, Altamont, western, black cat, lemon pie, twenty, one sixty-six, Altamont, western, black cat, lemon pie."

He struggled to keep from losing his shit and forced himself to unbend each finger of one hand away from the steering wheel. After he opened his window, the rush of cold early morning air cleared his eyes, and he breathed deeply, trying to gain control of his nerves. He checked the mirror. There was no one behind him; the road remained deserted, and he had a purpose.

Twenty, one sixty-six, Altamont, western, black cat, lemon pie…

Synopsis

Wynn Brenwood has been trapped by his mother since birth, shut away in a sterile, hospital-like apartment.
Is it her desire to keep him safe that sees him locked up in his pristine cage? Or are her motives less innocent and well-intentioned?
Craving Stains by Alina Popescu Cover
Wynn longs to break free to experience the world he sees beyond his window.
Desperate to escape, he meets Doyle, a handsome, leather-clad, and enigmatic stranger.
But is Doyle real, or is he just a figment of Wynn’s imagination?

Excerpt:

WYNN woke up with a start, splayed on his living room floor, gulping for air and feeling hot, sticky fluid all over his boxer briefs. “God damn it! If felt so real,” he yelled, a fresh wave of tears washing his face. He dragged himself to the bathroom and shed all his clothes.

Before throwing it into the laundry bin, he smelled his T-shirt. It held a trace of spicy cologne and male. Wynn’s hand flew to his mouth, covering the gasp. No, it was impossible, his brain was just making up scents that weren’t there. He threw it away with a huff, removed his now very sticky boxers, and went into the shower room, turning on the water and all the cleansing agents his mother insisted were added to the mix.

He massaged his body carefully, relaxing his muscles, tight and a little sore from sleeping on the floor. Every touch seemed to bring his body to life, more than ever before. Within minutes, he was panting, hard as a rock, and clear fluid dripped from the tip of his cock. He closed his fingers around the base of his shaft and started stroking lightly, tip to bottom and back again, just how he liked it.

“Doctor Miller is here for an unscheduled medical visit,” the central computerized system announced, the metallic voice making Wynn jump. He groaned, pushing down his frustration and turning the water to ice cold. He rushed through the rest of his shower and dried off quickly, walking into his bedroom to put on a pair of white sweats and a loose hoodie of the same color.

“What are you doing here, Doctor?” he asked in a sharp tone, not bothering with any niceties. “You shouldn’t be here for a few more days.”

The good doctor gave him an understanding smile and a nod, getting right on Wynn’s nerves. “Your mother ordered an emergency checkup. I hear you were not feeling well yesterday,” he explained in a honeyed voice, smiling as he took out scanners and other gadgets from his bag.

“I was angry she broke her promise again. I am perfectly healthy, and you should just pack your bag and get out,” Wynn said in an even voice, plopping down on a chair and eyeing the doctor with murderous intent.

“Your mother decides these things, not I.” The doctor shrugged and continued to arrange everything. Wynn stood as non-threateningly as he could, walked to the coffee table now filled with medical instruments, picked up a scanner, and threw it. He laughed as he watched it break into dozens of pieces against the thick glass of his window wall. The light buzzing of the maid bot hover propulsion was the only sound in the suddenly quiet room. Maud cleaned everything quickly and retreated to the kitchen.

“Doctor, unless you want me to break your stuff, all of it, and then punch you in the face, I suggest you pack up your bag and get out of my house.” Wynn turned swiftly and walked back into his room, giving the door a strong push to make sure it was loud when it closed behind him. He leaned against it, sticking his ear to the wood, listening for the sounds in the living room. Without a word, the doctor did as instructed.

Blurb:

When Zachary is sent to London to audit a very high profile company, the last thing he expected was to meet the man of his dreams on the flight there.

Killian's life has been hell for the last few years, but meeting Zach is the breath of fresh air he needed, even if he is half his age. He didn't expect things between the two of them to escalate as fast as they do.

One night of passion isn't enough, but there is danger in pursuing more, especially when fate throws them a curveball they never expected, and with Killian's ex ready for the attack, they could lose everything, still, with the chemistry between them, staying apart isn't an option.

With an attraction like neither has experienced, they are willing to risk it all, fighting the world around them that wants to keep them apart. Challenged in ways the two couldn't imagine possible, they must figure out how to hold on to something they know they might never find again.

***

Review:

Insta-love is not my favourite trope, so when Zach and Killian fall instantly in lust on the plane on the way to London, I was 'hmming' quite a lot. Zach, although not a virgin, seems quite inexperienced and shy so I was rather taken aback that he agrees to mess around with Killian, a man he knows nothing about, on the plane itself. I can't deny the scene was hot, for it was, but it just didn't fit with how I'd imagine Zach reacting.

They spend the night together in Zach's hotel at Gatwick airport - another niggle, although Gatwick is called London Gatwick, it is not actually in London - it's about 35 miles away in another county, West Sussex. So, Zach and Killian have more sex that night, and more, and more. I think they did five times - in one night? Then there is a misunderstanding with a note going missing and each of them thinking the other was only after a one-night stand.

The readers have guessed by now that the company Zach is going to audit is Killian's, so we know our two heroes will meet again. Which they do, and have more sex. They just couldn't keep their hands off each other. And even when they weren't physically together, they had phone and Skype sex too. Towards the end of the book, I was getting sex scene fatigue and wanted to read something other than sex, and the last twenty percent of the book answered my prayers.

I loved Zach and Killian, both interesting characters in their own right and that's what made me read on, despite the sex scene fatigue. I wanted to know what happened to them and if it would all work out. And I admit I have a soft spot for May-December romances. Zach is in his twenties, Killian is in his forties and their families were both worried that they were rushing into things. It may have seemed they were rushing into things, but these two characters connected and once you've found the one, why wait? I met my future husband when I was nineteen and we got married when I was twenty, so the family worries were not news to me. We're still married almost twenty five years later, and I hope Killian and Zach will make it for the long haul too.

Max, Killian's ex, is definitely a character you'll love to hate. I bristled every time he appeared and worried what he was going to do, for he wanted Killian back and would let nothing stand in his way. And I do mean nothing. He wasn't portrayed as crazy, so when he finally does what he does, I hadn't seen it coming at all.

There is a bit of plot interspersed with the sex scenes, but there wasn't enough of it. I would have preferred a better balance between the plot and the love scenes.

It definitely is an erotic romance, with heavy emphasis on the erotic. Mind you, despite there being a lot of love scenes, they are all different and well-written.

If you are looking for a sexy story, this could be the one for you.

Book Review: Pure Indulgence by Victoria Sue

Pure Indulgence
by Victoria Sue
Book 2 of the Pure series
M/M Contemporary/BDSM/Mystery
4 Stars

Joe, an ex-detective and a popular Dom, wasn’t gay. Not one little bit. He told himself that all the time he fought the inexplicable attraction he had for the gorgeous young submissive, Adam. Yet when he learns a psychopath responsible for two murders has set his sights on Adam, and Adam disappears, it suddenly seemed far more important to tell him something else.

Joe realizes Adam has become more important to him than his next breath, but if he can’t track down the psycho that was torturing and murdering submissives, Joe won’t ever be able to tell Adam anything else again, it will be far too late.

Review:

I hadn't realised this book was part of a series until after I'd read it, and I think it would be better for the reader to start with book 1 and then read this one. It does stand on its own, but I got a bit confused at the beginning when we were introduced to lots of characters at once. I assume some of them were in Book 1 so that the reader was supposed to know who they were right off the bat.

Pure is a BDSM club in Orlando, Florida and Joe is one of the club's owners. He's always been a Dom, but in the scenes he's played out, he's always been with women. He has never considered himself gay but he can no longer deny the attraction he feels towards Adam, one of the submissives at the club. His two ex-wives can testify to the fact that he isn't gay.

When the submissives hold an auction to raise money for a charity, Joe is really jealous when Adam is bought by another Dom for the evening. He fights his attraction tooth and nail, after all, he isn't gay! But eventually he musters up the courage to ask Adam to play a scene with him.

Adam is wary at first, he had no idea Joe was bisexual and he is afraid that Joe is really just experimenting with him and doesn't want anything more long term. For Adam has been in love with Joe for a while, but if all they'll ever have is sex, he wants to take that chance.

But someone is stalking and murdering submissives in Florida. Submissives who look remarkably like Adam. And when Adam disappears, Joe has to re-evaluate his feelings.

This book had a good balance of mystery and romance and the sex scenes were scorching hot. And the reason they were scorching hot was not because it was kinky or what have you, it was because of the emotional connection the characters shared. You cared about them and that draws you into a love scene more than anything else. I have to applaud the author for a book about BDSM where consent is an important part. So many I've read seem to use the term BDSM, when in reality the scenes that were played out were abusive. That is not the case here, thank goodness.

The characters discuss the 'gay for you' trope in the book, with Adam insisting that there's no such thing. But Joe does seem to be only attracted to Adam, not men in general, so perhaps there is a little bit of the trope here after all.

There is a bit of angst, a bit of humour and lots of romance. I adore a good hurt/comfort story, and at its heart, this is what Pure Indulgence is. Adam has had such a rough life up to now, and with the stalker, he knows it isn't over yet. But Joe doesn't run, he becomes the best Dom he can and looks after Adam as well as punishing him.

All the characters were well drawn but my favourite character has to be Adam. He was so damaged, but also so resilient too and you just couldn't help but root for him.

If you like a bit of a mystery plot with your romance, you can't go far wrong with Pure Indulgence.

Book Review: The Dragon's Curse by Victoria Zagar

Blurb:

War is brewing between the Greenlands and the Summer Kingdom, despite the efforts of Lord Aidan and Prince Varion, who have been meeting in secret in an attempt to maintain peace. When war proves inevitable, Aidan offers Varion asylum, loathe to see the man he's come to care about become his enemy.

But Varion refuses, sacrificing safety and his own desires to stay in the Summer Kingdom in order to protect his little brother from their ruthless father. The two men instead declare a blood oath to always protect each other, an oath that will see them through war, transformation, and a deadly curse...

Review:

King Cendali of the Summer Kingdom has become a bitter and cruel man after the death of his first wife and he lives for war. He hates the Dragonfolk, a race who are said to be descended directly from dragons. The thought that someone actually might have mated with a dragon disgusts Cendali and he cannot bear the sight of the Dragonfolk with their strange eyes and scaly skin.

When floods drive the Dragonfolk out of their traditional territory and encroach on the Summer Kingdom, Cendali has his excuse for war. He wants to completely wipe out the Dragonfolk, thinking them unnatural. But first he wants to know how to gain the dragon power - how to transform into a dragon.

Prince Varion has been meeting with Lord Aidan of the Greenlands as the two of them try to avert war between their kingdoms and they have fallen in love. But it doesn't matter, for their meetings are not as secret as they suppose and Prince Varion's life is in danger as soon as his father knows.

Both Lord Aiden and Prince Varion set out on the same quest: to find the godess' shrine and discover the secret of the dragon power. For only by giving it to his father might Prince Varion live and protect his younger brother.

Yes, it is possbile for a human to turn into a dragon, but the power has a price. Once the power is used, the person will no longer be fully human. That isn't the only cost: males with the dragon power die as soon as they mate.

This was a wonderful romantic adventure, with lots of UST between our heroes. The world Ms. Zagar has created is fully realised, with its own history, culture and customs.

I'm not usually a fan of shifter romance stories, I have a phobia about dogs so books with werewolves tend to terrify me rather than think anything romantic. But I do adore fantasy and dragons, so I am glad I gave this one a try.

Although short at novella-length, the story and characters are fully developed. Aidan and Varion are both noble characters and you have to wonder why Cendali hadn't poisoned Varion's mind as much as he had his youngest son, Tiernon.

I really wanted them to get their happy ending, but with a curse that if you make love, you die, that may not be easy to come by.

I don't want to spoil anything, so you'll just have to read it to find out.

The writing is good and flows well, just one wee niggle: while researching the curse Varion and Aidan "poured" over books instead of "pored".

All in all a good fantasy adventure and romance.

“I’m not drunk, I know what I’m doing. I want you here.” Jon lifted up on his elbow, keeping his grip on Ash’s hair tight as he moved closer to him. “Do you know how long I’ve wanted to fist this hair in my hand and press my lips against yours?” Jon’s mouth was almost on his, and Ash grabbed hold of his shoulder, keeping the inch separating them from getting any smaller. “Since I first saw you. “Jon…” Ash wanted to be strong, he really did, but everything in his body fought with his brain, shouting at him to shut up and let this happen. “This is still wrong.”

“I know,” Jon whispered against his lips. “But nothing’s ever felt so right before.”
