Series Spotlight Guest Post & Giveaway: Hunter Dane Investigations by Adira August

Hunter Dane is absolutely Alpha at his job and a total submissive with his true Dom, Camden Snow. Some have asked me:
An Alpha Sub? How Can That Be?
There’s an amazing amount of pure nonsense slung around these days about being an”Alpha” male or female. Here’s some now:
“She [Alpha female] is unabashedly sexy as well as career oriented. Her towering four-inch stilettos march off to the office, the store, the judge’s chambers, and her lacquered-red soles send a “follow me” signal, straight to the bedroom.” source
So. No pressure!
Srsly? Being an Alpha female requires marching around a courtroom in front of a judge or jury in four inch fuck-me heels? So she can make sure she isn’t taken seriously? Can have crippling arthritis in her feet in a few years?
It’s just as bad for men, apparently. This article requires men to change the way they walk to “become” an Alpha:
“Alpha males walk slow but with strong steps. Unlike a beta male who just walks fast or uses a walk to get from point A to point B, an alpha male knows his walk can make him stand out.”
Oh, dear God. Then we come to this, a standard trope in modern romance:
“Alpha males take control. They are dominant. They tell people what to do. They take over situations when necessary. Alpha males are seen as powerful. They are the king of the mountain." source
Hey, at least they don’t have to stay up there in 4-inch stilettos.
Alphaism in social structure is a common component of animal studies. But for humans, let’s use an older, but much better descriptor for Alpha: opinion leader. This excellent definition comes from a business dictionary:
1. General: Influential members of a community, group, or society to whom others turn for advice, opinions, and views.
2. Marketing: Minority group (called early adopters) that passes information on new products (received from the media) to less adventuresome or not as well informed segments of the population. source
If you hang out in a 4th grade classroom, you’ll soon identify which kids are opinion leaders (OPs).
The OP in a group, what we might call the Alpha, is the one people look at when a surprising or scary situation arises. Whether a clown or a rattlesnake enters the room, everyone looks at the OP for a clue as to how to feel or respond. This kind of Alphahood is a natural trait.
Jury Duty: Someone can learn to manipulate the social situation - 12 strangers in a room - so that they are elected jury foreman. But during deliberations, the OP/Alpha—male or female, sitting anywhere at the table—is the one the other jurors will listen to. This OP/Alpha may be unassuming or gregarious, or anything in-between. Being Alpha has nothing to do with expressing sexuality in terms of Dominance or submission.
… all of us, along with several other mammal species, appear to possess subcortical circuits for sexual dominance as well as submission. ... source
You don’t need to find neural pathways in an autopsy to know this. Every individual, female or male, is on a status continuum. They will be dominant relative to some people and submissive relative to others.
Sexually, people like a partner who rolls them onto their backs and takes over, because it mimics the partner being the Dominant who has chosen them. People like to roll someone onto their back and take over because it mimics being the Dominant and having another submit. Sometimes, both partners like doing both things in the same session!
D/s is a continuum. Some are further along the dominance scale, some the submissive. Some switch between extremes, and some are just hanging out in the middle.
And any of them can be an Alpha opinion leader or a Delta jury foreman who attained artificial Alphahood and was relegated to counting the votes and ordering lunch.

Blurb Sometimes it's the cop who needs to hit the floor...

As a homicide cop, every blood-soaked crime scene settled in my bones and snaked around my spine. There was only one way to exorcise the images from my soul ...

Inside the club, I stopped to scan the room. He was here, Camden Snow. A Norse sex god in the guise of unpretentious youth. Only his ice-blue eyes gave evidence of the Dom who took whomever he wished, whatever way he wanted, with a look and a nod. Merciless. Cam found me watching him and fixed me with his arctic gaze. This time, I didn't walk away. He cocked an eyebrow.

Well? The last thing I needed was mercy. I dropped to my knees.

A frank exploration of the D/s dynamic between two powerful men. Consensual. Adult. Intense.

To solve the complex case, Hunter needs the talents of Camden Snow, the brilliant, beautiful, “no limits” Dom who'd helped him unravel a very peculiar, and very personal, murder.

But Cam's ready to kill Hunt, himself! Their high-intensity D/s relationship that began in a playroom, ended in an emergency room. “If you want to be with me, you'll have to do more make some big re-entry gesture,” Cam said. “That’s just more drama. You’ll have to work for this, Hunter.”

“All right. What work would that be?” Hunter asked, eager to perform any penance Cam gave him.

“You’re the champion puzzle-solver and ace detective. Unravel a mystery.” Hunter’s brows pulled together.

“What mystery?” “Me."

For adults who love some mystery with their men. A 70k police procedural with a liberal dose of M/M heat. The 2nd of the Hunter Dane Investigations. Matchstick Men, their 1st case, also available on Amazon. Their next case, Psychic Men, will be out in spring of 2018

About the Author
TYPOS ARE MY TRADEMEARK I write mostly BDSM EROTICA because I love exploring the power dynamics in terms of the love relationships. The work is explicit. It's always consensual. If you have triggers about certain kinds of practices, use discretion. I do not make kink lists for my titles. I went to school interminably, it seemed like. I studied anthropology and paleontology and genetics and literature and theology and ancient Greek. I chased down bad guys, raised children, climbed mountains, played poker, searched for dinosaurs and have had a rather large number of lovers. (I'm not giving up any numbers because TMI) Through it all, I wrote. No wonder I'm so tired.
You can read all my books stand-alone. There's plenty of information about what happened previously in Hunt and Cam's story for you to easily follow their relationship arc. The mysteries are always complete within the stories. BUT if you're a romance lover, the relationship story is not a romance. It is a love story. But it's also the story of two independent Alpha males: one gay and one bisexual, one Dom and one switch with a preference for BDSM. And they aren't simple, take it from someone who shares headspace with them. I love these guys. They surprise me and challenge me and break my heart, sometimes. They inspire me. (Just some FYI for the new readers. Hi. Welcome.) Addi

  1. Thanks so much for promoting my boys! I love that you used their images, they are my favorites!

  2. I love these books. They are awesome. I still am not sure if I can forgive you that massive blow in book two (or is it three if I count the novella). When is the next book coming out?
