England, 1217. Dark forces are rising. In the Greenwood, foul spirits grow powerful, and greedy barons plunder the lands. Only one man dares fight back--Robin Hood.
Robin's band of brothers is broken. Now a lone warrior, he denies his famous name and laments the friends and lovers he's lost. When the fair folk capture Cal, a beautiful young forester descended from the Greenwood's ancient protectors, Robin rescues him and forges a new alliance.
Despite a sizzling attraction, Robin senses Cal isn't like his old comrades, and he's right. Cal's been raised as a royal spy. He plans to seduce and betray Robin, but can't harm the man he's falling hard for. Mistrust and arguments spill into passionate lovemaking, as Cal learns the meaning of loyalty, fighting beside Robin, the only friend he's ever known. Even the enchanted forest seeks to bind Robin and the returned protector ever tighter.
Their connection will be tested by nature's wildest forces, Robin's past, Cal's lies, and in a baron's darkest dungeon. To survive, Robin and Cal must admit their love and embrace their true destinies. Only then can they save England and each other--and win their happiness ever after.
Review:
I adore anything to do with Robin Hood, so when I saw this book by Kay Berrisford, how could I resist? Not only Robin Hood, but mystical forces of the Greenwood, the Green Man and Herne the Hunter - I was in reading Heaven.
The writing is as lush as the forests our characters find themselves in and despite there being elementals, spirits and fairies, everything seemed so real. With descriptions so vivid you could almost imagine yourself there among the Greenwood yourself. The writing is very lyrical, almost like poetry and never once did you feel you were being lectured on History, everything just flowed within the plot.
The love scenes between Robin and Cal are scorching hot, but as well as the physical connection, there is also the emotional one between them. Both are damaged characters but you hope that finally they have found someone to share their life with.
Cal and Robin's road to love does not run smoothly and I think it worked so much better for it - you know they'd been through a lot to get their happy ending. There were lies, manipulations, betrayals mixed in with a good dose of lust and lust for revenge. Not only do they have to contend with the odious Baron Odo, the sheriff of Nottingham here, but also the truth about Robin's old flame, Daniel. The book is wonderful and I don't really know what else to say about it except - go, read and enjoy!

Writing Romance: M/M and F/F Versus M/F
by Kyra Gregory
Author of Butterfly
Many, readers and simply curious people alike, have often asked me if I felt any real difference when writing 'straight' romances and 'gay' romances, or if I do anything in particular to prepare for such characters. Frankly, I don't. Is that a strange answer? It's probably not one most people were expecting and probably not the most interesting response either.
Characters are just like people, however fictional they may be, and I treat them as such when I write them. All people are multi-faceted; rarely is there a single aspect or trait to their personality that over-rides every single part of them. Sexual orientation is just another one of those things; one part of many and not everything is necessarily ruled by it. A character forms by itself and who they desire occurs similarly. It's not the first time I start writing a story and the person who they get paired up with changes, sometimes surprising me. Although it's not in the matter of sexual orientation an example that comes to mind is Mary, from my novel Secrets Clad in Light; she took on an entirely different form than I had first imagined of her and to the point that if you asked me now what she was originally planned to be like I wouldn't even know how to answer you. She took on a life of her own and this happens with other characters also. In Butterfly, the relationship between Zack and Alex wasn't planned but, rather, it evolved in a way that felt most natural for them.
Those two were close for a long time and their relationship can't be so easily broken, no matter the trials and disagreements that they constantly have between them. Do I think that either one of them would have developed the same type of romantic relationship if the other was a woman? I have no idea because once it happened I couldn't really imagine it any other way. The only thing that is certain is that the two would not survive without each other as they are.
Have there been characters who have only been attracted to the same sex?
There have been. But have there been characters whose desires are a bit more complicated than that? Absolutely. Most of the time I think that characters fall for another as a person, as can happen in life, the reasons they're attracted to each other, the reasons they have such a strong relationship, are things that are as complicated as the way they act with each other. I don't really believe that 'a relationship between two men is surely like this'; I think just the way relationships between straight couples can vary the same thing can be said for gay couples. The way people act within a relationship says a lot about them; while the type of person they are with may allow them to condone the manner in which they approach their partner much of the way they act comes from within themselves.
Choices in a relationship, the way people behave in a relationship, can't really, entirely depend on a person's sex. Sometimes they'll get into situations that may be a result of it, make some things difficult for them, but it's really characters' personalities that can shape the way they act in a relationship.
All these things make it very difficult for me to say that there are any particular considerations made when I write m/m and f/f, versus m/f. If I had to be more accurate I would say that there are particular considerations for each and every couple written because who an individual is and how they make relationships work is unique to them and not simply a result of their own sex and that of their partner.
I find myself enjoying writing romance because I don't feel tied down. With an open mind I'm able to allow my characters to take over, acting in ways that befit their characters and forming relationships with those that they desire. This makes it an incredibly fun and intriguing journey for me and it gives me little incentive to prepare myself in any way with pre-conceived ideas of how any one of them should act.

London, 1822
It was only supposed to be one night.
One night to determine once and for all if he truly preferred men. But the last thing Lord Benjamin Parker expected to find in a questionable gambling hall in Cheapside is a gorgeous young man who steals his heart.
It was only supposed to be a job. Cavin Fox has done it many times—select a prime mark, distract him with lust, and leave his pockets empty. Yet when Cavin slips away under the cover of darkness, the only part of Benjamin he leaves untouched is his pockets.
With a taste of his fantasies fulfilled, Benjamin wants more than one night with Cavin. But convincing the elusive young man to give them a chance proves difficult. Cavin lives with a band of thieves in the worst area of London, and he knows there's no place for him in a gentleman's life. Yet Benjamin isn't about to let Cavin—and love—continue to slip away from him.
Review:
Now, I'm not normally one who likes books where the two main characters jump into bed with each other before they get to know each other a bit. But with Brook Street: Thief, for these two characters, it just works. Lord Benjamin Parker has been wondering for a while if he prefers men over women and seeks out a gambling house of a certain reputation to discover the truth about himself. Cavin Fox seeks out men of a certain persuasion and then robs them once they're asleep. He works for a man called Hale, and previously he had pimped Cavin out and got his money that way, but Cavin never liked it. It was his idea to instead pick out the gentlemen he wants to sleep with and rob them instead of whoring. Hale doesn't care either way as long as he gets his money.
The sparks fly between Benjamin and Cavin as soon as they meet and you just know that before the end of the night, these two are going to get together. It was Benjamin's first time with a man, but he wasn't a shy blushing, virgin, he knew what he wanted and went right after it. The love scenes are very erotic, well-written with a focus on the emotions the characters are feeling as well as they physical aspects and each one added something different to the story. They flowed with the narrative, rather than the author just decided "we need a love scene here".
I adored Benjamin and Cavin and I was rooting for them to get their happy ever after, even though it probably wasn't true to life in that respect. Would a thief and a gentlemen ever stay together? More could have been made of their different backgrounds and how they overcome them. And of course not to mention the fact that homosexuality was illegal then. But it's a book, and I could suspend my disbelief for that. After all, I was reading a romance, not historical fact.
Ava March is rapidly becoming one of my favourite authors. Reading her books, you can imagine you are in the gambling dens, rich town houses, or in the stews of Regency London without the book turning into a history lesson. Although is a novella, it's a satisfying read and doesn't leave lots of loose threads dangling.
I loved the book and I would have given it 5 stars except there were a few quibbles which took me out of the story. It's set in Regency London, Benjamin was English so there is no way he would have thought to himself that he was "blocks from home". It should have been roads or streets away. We don't have blocks, most cities and towns aren't on a grid system, but sprawl all over the place. Then, there is mention of a marquis, the correct term would be marquess (the male title) and his wife would be a marchioness. Debretts online guide is helpful for that sort of thing.
But all in all a very enjoyable tale, well-told with characters you care about and want to see happy. If you want, hot Regency stories with spicy M/M romance, Ava March should be on your list.

An Inside Look at Four Days with Jack
By Amber Allure Author Kelli A. Wilkins

Hi everyone,
Today I’m sharing an inside look at my first Amber Allure romance, Four Days with Jack. I always knew that one day I’d write a gay romance, and I’d been batting ideas around in my head for a while. I was in between books when I heard about the Amber Allure “Postcards from Paradise” line, and I knew I had my next project.
A lot of people cringe when they learn that I write erotica – “You mean porn?” No. I write hot love stories that don’t skimp on details. And when people find out I write gay erotic romances, that really freaks them out. “But why would you do that? You’re not a man or gay.” So? I wrote a Bigfoot romance, and I’ve never seen Bigfoot.
As a writer, I approach a same-sex love scene the same way I would if I was writing about a hetero couple. For me, it’s not about the gender or the anatomy of the characters – it’s about creating a believable, intimate scene where two people express their love for each other.
Four Days with Jack is one of the very few books I wrote without an outline. I think not having an outline let the characters write their own story (so to speak), and took the book in new directions. As I wrote, David quickly revealed a major conflict – inner turmoil.
David has kept his true desires a secret from himself and everyone else. He is afraid of what people will think about him if they know (or even suspect) he’s gay. How will they react? Will he be shunned by friends and family? Should he tell anyone? Live a lie? How will his life change?
I picked up on this theme of “what will people think?” and ran with it. In the book, David points out that Jack’s family (and some friends) disowned him when he came out, and David doesn’t want to go through the same heartache. Jack’s reply is pretty much: “So? They’ll get over it.”
As I was writing this story, I also considered “what people would think” about this book. How can a woman write a gay romance? What will people think about the m/m love scenes? Then I reminded myself that I’m a writer and I create the characters and scenes that make up the book. Basically, the story needs to be told, and I’m the one telling it. I’ve made up all sorts of things: an erotic Bigfoot story, detailed mĆ©nage scenes (in all combinations!), a first-person vampire love story, and even a werewolf/Alpha male romance.
Writers need to turn off their internal editors and forge ahead with the story as it should be (and needs to be) told. If we constantly worried about “what grandma would think” about our writing, or if we were afraid to open up and let the characters and story take us into the bedroom, we’d never write anything except G-rated bedtime stories. And if a friend/relative/whoever has a problem with the subject matter, Jack’s right: they’ll get over it.
Recently I read a blog where a woman was “confessing” to writing an erotic romance, even though she couldn’t tell anyone about it and wouldn’t “dare” put her real name on the story. I got to wondering…why? Why hide your writing? And if you’re “ashamed” to be writing in a particular genre, why invest the time in something you’re not going to stand behind?
Four Days with Jack deals with issues of homophobia, self-doubt, and self-acceptance. I’m proud that I wrote it. Why? Because I’m a romance writer – and in my books, everyone deserves to be in love and live happily-ever-after.
I’m pleased to say that Four Days with Jack has received great reviews. Here’s a snippet from one:
“...I thought that (Kelli) Wilkins did a very good job portraying the confused David and the wary, but hopeful, Jack. David’s inner turmoil and fears about outing himself were so heartbreaking. I definitely felt for him. A strong romance with very likeable characters. I’m quite glad that I went ahead and read this story. I learned that as a romance fan I can definitely appreciate and enjoy those that feature two male heroes. An emotional, yet sexy coming-out story about two men finally opening themselves up to the possibility of a great love. It was an excellent introduction into the world of M/M romance.”--Jennifer, Romance Novel News

Author Interview: Kyra Gregory
About the Author:
At the time of writing this I'm a student and writer, working my way towards finding a place of my own in the world. I'm based on the little island of Malta, balancing all the different aspects of my life through a hectic schedule. I started out writing short stories, just for myself, and then began writing lyrics for a band that I was part of for years. As I became a bit more confident I wrote fanfiction on popular website www.fanfiction.net but always kept my original works entirely to myself. 2012 has started, making it about 10 years now since I first started writing, and I'm ready to take on new challenges as an author. In June I began self-publishing, slowly trying to bring myself out of my shell.
Do you plan everything or just let the story flow?
I usually have an outline but otherwise I just let things flow. Although a lot will be planned since I would have spent plenty of time with the story just floating about in my head, when I come down to writing it certain things change. I'm not opposed to those changes in any way so it's safe to say I just let the story flow as it wishes.
Do your characters ever want to take over the story?
This is actually why I tend to let my stories flow naturally. Most of them are quite character-driven and I learn new things about my characters along the way so I can never be certain where a story is going to lead until I write it.
What drew you to the M/M genre in particular?
I wouldn't say it was something in particular really. I've been writing romance and stories about all kinds of relationships for a very long time and, with the open mind that I have, it was only natural that characters would feel comfortable enough to fall in love with whomever they desired. All it really takes is for my character to decide who he's attracted to and I'll have no problem writing it.
Do you write in other genres besides M/M?
I write numerous genres; the more I get to experiment with the better. Something I love is that M/M can happen in any setting and can be made interesting because each time and location has its own views towards it that can add conflict to the story. But like I said, since the characters tend to develop by themselves and run the story themselves I don't always know I'm going to write M/M until it's been done.
What is your favourite food?
Anything super spicy but flavourful; stuff like spicy pizza and Indian food.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Definitely a night owl. Most of the time, especially in the Summer months, my bed time is around the time I see the sun beginning to rise.
Where do you dream of travelling to and why?
Japan and places with cooler weather, such as England. The cloudy, somewhat gloomy, weather of England is just so cosy to me. Whether it's being inside with a hot drink and a good book or if I'm out running errands, that type of atmosphere is really pleasant to me. As for Japan, I love the fashion, the people, the language, the music and the history; if possible I would visit Japan often.
Do distant places feature in your books?
Looking back, I think that Secrets Clad in Light is the first time that I was actually specific about a place at all. Otherwise I tend to avoid setting the book in a particular country; I feel I have more freedom and can develop the setting more. In the case of the novel Butterfly quite some serious accusations are made about the manner in which the children are kept and what is done to them and I feel like by not specifying a country or a place I can avoid giving anyone the impression that I think such occurrences could occur in that country. For me, there's great appeal in avoiding stating a place or inventing a place; like this, I can be most honest about something that can truthfully happen anywhere, without getting into anyone's head that I believe these things only happen in the place the story is set.
Do you listen to music while writing?
I love to listen to music particularly while writing. I often pick things out of my play list that best suit the scene I'm writing, the feelings of the characters or the setting.
Could you tell us a bit about your latest release?
Butterfly is the first novel in the Forgotten Children series; each book follows a different child, or children, all of whom are tied together by their background. In Butterfly, an Abbey full of children has burnt down; some are hurt and linger around the site, watching as all they've ever known comes crashing down, while others run as fast as they can from a life they long to leave behind.
Anything you would say to those just starting out in the craft?
It may sound corny, it may be a clichƩ but just write what you love and write from the heart; you'll probably never succeed more at anything than the things you love. If you love something, let that love push you to make yourself better.
Blurb of your latest release:
Butterfly
Ellis McGowan, a child psychiatrist, thought he had seen and heard it all, especially with a wife, Jodie, in the same emotionally-draining profession. When the fire and collapse of an Abbey in the vicinity of their home leaves traumatised children of all ages displaced Ellis is ready to help in any way he can. Soon enough, he finds that everything is not as they imagined; more children than what were originally documented escaped from that building, many with no traceable origins and Ellis needs to find out why, prepared to go to great lengths to do so.
Zack and Alex, the eldest known survivors, soon find themselves in an environment radically different from what they are used to. In a warm, inviting household and faced with a real family the two aren't sure how to handle things but are certain they will never be able to tell others what went on in their pasts.
Unwilling to lose all faith in the system, and his profession, Ellis is determined to get answers out of the boys to save them, and the others, from the torture they have been subjected to, even while knowing that the Abbey walls were easier to knock down than the ones that had formed around their hearts.

Book Review: The Druid Stone
The Druid Stone
by Heidi Belleau & Violetta Vane
MM Romance/Paranormal/Myths/Legends
Carina Press
5 Stars
Blurb:
Sean never asked to be an O'Hara, and he didn't ask to be cursed by one either.
After inheriting a hexed druid stone from his great-grandfather, Sean starts reliving another man's torture and death...every single night. And only one person can help.
Cormac Kelly runs a paranormal investigation business and doesn't have time to deal with misinformed tourists like Sean. But Sean has real magic in his pocket, and even though Cormac is a descendant of legendary druids, he soon finds himself out of his depth...and not because Sean's the first man he's felt anything for in a long time.
The pair develop an unexpected and intensely sexual bond, but are threatened at every turn when Sean's case attracts the unwelcome attention of the mad sidhe lords of ancient Ireland. When Sean and Cormac are thrust backward in time to Ireland's violent history—and their own dark pasts—they must work together to escape the curse and save their fragile relationship.
Book One of the Layers of the Otherworld series
Review:
Ever since his great-grandfather gave him a strange stone, Sean O'Hara has been having the same nightmare every night. He relives again and again the torture and death of someone in the distant past. His sleep disturbed, his days getting more and more surreal as he tries to survive on little sleep and an array of pills, he's at his wits' end. Psychiatrists are no help but he thinks he might have found the solution: Cormac Kelly, an Irish druid.
Unfortunately, Cormac wants nothing to do with him. Emails and letters go unanswered. With nothing left to lose, Sean leaves Boston for Ireland to seek out the one man who is sure can help him. Cormac is reluctant to believe Sean at first, convinced he is one of those "plastic paddies", as he calls them, who think every hill holds a leprechaun or two, everyone drinks Guinness and there really is gold at the end of the rainbow.
But it's when Sean attracts the attention of a sidhe king, Finnbheara, that Cormac realises that perhaps Sean is really cursed after all.
Now, I'm not normally a fan of urban fantasy, but when I read the blurb for this one, I was drawn in with the references to Irish mythology. Being Irish myself, how could I resist? I'm glad I gave it a go, it was a wonderful tale.
Both Sean and Cormac have tortured pasts, which might have come off a bit of a clichƩ but there was nothing clichƩd about this story, it was evocative and imaginative. It was very well-written and I couldn't tell which author wrote which part, it flowed so well.
Sometimes the romance between Cormac and Sean took a back-seat to the plot, which didn't bother me, I like a good bit of plot with my romance. This is certainly a roller-coaster ride of a plot. The book had a bit of everything: romance, adventure, ancient and mythical beings, magic and suspense. It was moving, romantic, funny and heart-wrenching in parts, everything a good novel should be.
I loved the characters, Sean and Cormac's pasts were just part of who they were, it didn't seem to be used as an excuse for cheap drama.
The book was great, I'm glad I read it, but there were a few little niggles that took me out of the story when I first read them. In a few scenes form Cormac's point of view, him being Irish, he referred to being "blocks from home" and walking on a sidewalk. I've never heard any Irish person refer to blocks, it should probably have been street or road. And no sidewalks either, it would have been pavement or footpath.
All in all an excellent read, especially if you like a good bit of plot with your romance.

Do you plan everything or just let the story flow?
When I sit down to write, particularly with my latest release, I don’t know what’s going to happen until the story takes me there. I think I always have some type of plan for where I want the book to go, but not every detail is mapped out.
With “Blackout” the ending came to me while I was sleeping! I remember lying half-asleep in bed, just about to wake up before my alarm went off, and I was thinking about how on earth it was going to end. I had been struggling with it for days now and suddenly, it just came to me! The perfect ending! I shot up in bed and ran over to my desk and began frantically scribbling down ideas before I forgot them.
When I emerged from the bedroom, my partner was looking at me puzzled as I held up my page of scribblings and told him that I finally figured out the ending!
Hopefully my next piece won’t be such a struggle!
What drew you to the M/M genre in particular?
I have always loved reading and writing M/M erotica. There’s a certain rawness about it that I have always been drawn to. Someone who can write erotica has to be in touch with a certain side of themselves, that I don’t believe we all can dwell. I love being able to put my deepest fantasies on paper, and expose myself in that way. There’s something very freeing about seeing it come to life around you, and knowing that somewhere, someone else is appreciating it as well.
I suppose the other reason I’m so drawn to the M/M genre is that when I started out as a writer, someone told me that the best writers are the ones who write what they know. So I guess you could say that my dirty imagination led me to where I am today!
What is your favourite food?
Easy. Popcorn. Hands down. I love it. I love it so much I could eat it morning, noon and night. I always have a big bowl of it next to me while I’m writing. I couldn’t begin to tell you why. Perhaps it’s because I consider it my comfort food. Somewhere someone’s reading this now and analysing the psychology behind it.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
I’m both, actually! I’m a morning person in the sense that I don’t have a problem getting up early and actually enjoy starting my day off right, instead of sleeping in and wasting it away. However, I find that I’m most productive in the evenings. I love writing and doing yoga at night…I think my body just feels more awake and receptive after the sun’s gone down. My best ideas come to me at night.
Do distant places feature in your books?
That’s such an interesting question; I’m Canadian born and bred, but moved to the UK five years ago. Since moving here I have moved to and fallen in love with the beautiful seaside town of Brighton. It’s the most incredible place in the UK, if you ask me. So many incredible bars and restaurants, and right on the sea! What more could you want?
So since moving here, I find myself inspired by the seaside way of life and have based both my novels on Brighton. And now I couldn’t imagine writing about anywhere else!
Could you tell us a bit about your latest release?
“Blackout” is my spiciest book to date, for sure. It started out actually as a short story that was my first published piece as a guest author spot in another author’s book. But I loved the main character too much to just let the idea go. It’s the story of a male stripper named Dice, who gets entangled in a murder investigation and must clear his name before it’s too late.
It was so much fun to write. I absolutely loved Dice, and hope you will too. When writing him, I dug deep and created a character who instead of being based on elements of my own personality, was based entirely on my fantasies. Dice is nothing like me, instead he’s my fantasy. I wanted him to seem like he had everything; looks, friends, the world in the palm of his hand…Then strip it all away from him and turn his life upside down.
The story is essentially a mystery along the lines of “Basic Instinct” and “Body of Evidence”, that will keep you guessing and doubting what you think you know until the very last moment when all is revealed in the book’s final showdown.
- Ooh, intriguing!
Who, or what, if anything has influenced your writing?
I think it’s safe to say that this book was heavily influenced by strippers! I’ve always had a fascination with strippers; there’s something so truthful and honest about exotic dancers. They really aren’t afraid of being themselves. They put themselves out there for the world to gawk at and obsess over. Instead of having the strippers in the book come off as desperados who are only after a quick buck, I wanted to portray their lifestyles in a positive light. I tried exploring the glamourous side of exotic dancing; the music, the power, the sex. I think the dancing scenes in the book are my favourites. They took ages to write-I wanted them to be just right and detailed enough so the reader feels like they’re right there in the club, watching it all go down.
The dancers at the club in the book are so powerful- they exude this sex appeal that is undeniable and overshadows the grittiness of taking off your clothes for money.
What are three words that describe you?
Creative, imaginative, and filthy.
What's your favourite book or who is your favourite writer?
That question is too hard to answer. I love to read. I’m always reading; if I’m without a book, I feel naked. I used to stick to a particular genre/author when I was growing up, but I’ve since allowed my tastes to expand and I’ve started reading all sorts of different types of books by as many different types of authors.
I love chick lit, I love horror books, thrillers, romances and weird and wacky types of books. Anne Rice, Stephen King, GA Hauser, 50 Shades trilogy, Immodesty Blaize. I have so many favourites, it’s hard to name them all!

He’s the one you dream about.

Dice Valentine was born to strip. With the body of a god that drips with sex appeal, his dance moves leave his male clients breathless and begging for more. But lost in a dark world of hedonism and indulgence, Dice is beginning to want out. That is until a night of mind-blowing sex with a mysterious lover takes a grim, shocking turn, and he finds himself in a desperate attempt to clear his name…as the hunter becomes the hunted. “Blackout” is a dark tale of sex and betrayal that will haunt you, possess you until the final moments, and make you doubt everything you thought you knew about the truth.

Nate Jacobs has his health, a roof over his head, food in his stomach, and a best friend to keep him grounded. What more does a Dominant need? That’s what he always thought until Kyle Turner knocked on his door.
In a slump since his last break up, Kyle Turner decides to try something different. Angel’s Heart. A House of Dominants. Kyle has no idea what to expect, but he definitely gets more than he bargained for when he puts himself at Nate’s mercy…literally.
Irresistible attraction draws Kyle deeper and deeper into Nate’s world of domination and submission. But in order to find love, the Master will have to surrender and allow his submissive’s love to dominate him.
Review:
A Master's Love tells the story of Kyle and Nate. Kyle, who thinks there is something missing in life, decides to go to the fetish parlour, Angel's Heart, in order to see if he might be a submissive. Nate is the handsome Dominant who opens the door for their first session and the story continues from there. More could have been made of this. Why did Kyle think he was submissive? Had he seen something somewhere? Read about it and thought it might be for him? The reader never knows.
They are both attracted to each other from the moment they meet, which seemed a bit too sudden for me, as they don't really know anything much about each other yet, and neither do the readers.
There is sexual tension between the two heroes which sizzles throughout. Nate has never fallen for a client before and it takes all his willpower to keep from touching Nate, which is not really allowed during their sessions. The sex scenes are well written, as is the whole book, Ms. Rayne has a way with words but I felt there was something lacking in the character development. It might have been because it's a short book, and if longer, those issues may well have been addressed. There's also a bit of telling, rather than showing. We're told in the narrative about Nate's past, rather than have it revealed as the story goes along.
I did like both Nate and Kyle as characters and you root for them to get their happy ending. If you're a bit wary about reading something with BDSM in it, this one is fairly light on that aspect. There are some toys, some bondage and some Dominant/submissive scenes (Kyle has to obey orders such as not touching himself etc.)
All in all it was a good book. although it had a few problems, they didn't detract too much from my enjoyment of the book. I will certainly give other books by this author a go.

Lord Oliver Marsden has a secret. He's been in love with his childhood friend for years, though Vincent's never shown an interest in him beyond friendship.
Ruggedly handsome, wealthy, and successful, Vincent is everything Oliver is not. And Vincent doesn't prefer men.
Then Oliver discovers Vincent hires a man during his visits to a London brothel. Desperate to be with Vincent, Oliver orchestrates a deception, switching places with the brothel's employee. When Oliver arrives at the bedchamber, he's in for another surprise. Restraints and a leather bullwhip? Apparently Vincent isn't as conservative as he appears.
Lord Vincent Prescot has a secret of his own. One kept locked away and only indulged once a month. But this month's appointment is different. The mysterious man is so perfect, so beautiful in his submission, rousing protective instincts Vincent can't deny. Yet he refuses to believe he might truly prefer men, for it could mean the end of his hopes of earning his father's respect.
Will betrayal destroy them or will they be bound together by deception?
Review:
This is a very hot and sensual novella, peeking into the lives of Oliver Marsden and Vincent Prescot, both second sons of the aristocracy who met and became firm friends at boarding school. As the years moved on, however, Oliver fell in love with Vincent, who shows no hint of sharing his friend's preferences for men. That is until Oliver discovers that Vincent goes to a brothel once a month, in order to avail himself of the services of a male prostitute, the same one Oliver uses.
Oliver devises a very ill-informed plan, wherein he will take the place of the prostitute and have Vincent, even if it's only for one night. But the reader knows, long before Oliver does, that one night is never going to be enough and what happens when Vincent discovers the deception?
Although a short novella, you don't feel cheated of storyline and characters. Oliver and Vincent are both well-drawn, rounded characters, Oliver has a bit more depth than Vincent, I would say. Vincent is quite well-to do, but Oliver's families fortunes have waned due to his father and grandfather's gambling problems and the contrast between their two lifestyles is well done. Oliver's house has gone to seed a bit, as he has no maids or valets, unlike Vincent and I had to laugh at the scene wherein Vincent tries to convince him to get a maid, but Oliver doesn't want her to wonder what the hook in the ceiling is for. Vincent says that Oliver doesn't have a hook in the bedroom ceiling. "No, not yet."
The love scenes between our two heroes are scorching and who knew there were so many sex toys around in the Regency era? - Oliver has quite the collection! Some people might be put off by the BDSM elements, but though it is there and is quite sexy in my opinion, you also see the emotional connection between the two characters, it's not all just physical gratification. I don't think Oliver would have been that interested in it if it hadn't been with Vincent. It works for these two characters and that's what's important.
You have to suspend your disbelief a little during that first scene, where Vincent doesn't know it is Oliver he is with. They'd been friends for years, surely he would have recognised his voice even if Oliver had been trying to disguise it? Anyway, I was reading it for the romance, so I can forgive that and it is an interesting way for our two heroes to get together at first. I don't think I've ever read a book with that premise before, so kudos to the author for originality. I think Ava March has cornered the market with Regency M/M erotic romances, she does it very well and you can tell from the writing she loves the era she is writing about, but her books never turn into a history lesson.
A great read.

A super aggressive Alpha male, a serial killer, and a visit to a kinky sex club…What has Larry gotten himself into?
When Larry learns that his boyfriend Greg changes into another man during the full moon, he has a hard time accepting it—until he meets Deke, Greg’s alternate Alpha personality.
Deke doesn’t play nice and has no time for games. He only wants two things—to get laid and to get revenge against the arsonist who murdered his friends. Finally free from Greg’s restraints, Deke is ready for action, and Larry is more than willing to submit to Deke’s needs.
Together, Larry and Deke set out to find the killer. Their hunt takes them to an all-night Alpha sex club where things heat up for the two of them. But when Larry unwittingly falls into the clutches of the murderer, it’s up to Deke—and Greg—to save him before it’s too late.
Excerpt:
“Well, who do we have here?”
Larry stared up at the guy from the DVD. Whoever he was, he wasn’t Greg. This dude stood at least three inches taller than Greg’s six feet, and his shoulders were a hell of a lot more muscular. His wide chest was covered in black curly hair and…he was naked.
“I’m… I’m…” Larry stammered. This guy had the hugest dick he’d ever seen. “My name is—”
“I don’t care who you are. Get in here.”
The strange man grabbed him by the front of his shirt and dragged him into the secret room. Except for a queen-sized bed and a lamp, the room was empty. He noticed a broken chain fastened to the wrought-iron headboard. The guy had a handcuff around his right wrist. Did Greg chain him down here?
“Suck my cock.”
“What?” Did he hear him right?
“Suck my cock,” the brute said, pulling him close. “Or I’m not going to be very friendly to you.”
“Yeah but, I…” He stalled, trying to decide what to do. In the movies werewolves never asked for blow jobs.
“Now!”
“Do you want to get on the bed? Or maybe—”
“Here. On your knees.”
The guy pressed Larry’s face against his hairy chest. Larry squirmed for a minute, then breathed in deep. To his surprise, the stranger smelled good. His skin let off a hint of musk and spice mixed with an earthy man-scent. Larry’s pulse quickened, and blood surged to his cock. How was this guy turning him on? He didn’t know who—or what—he was.
“You ready to suck me?”
“Yeah.” He was. Something about this guy made him horny and willing to do whatever he asked.
Larry’s mouth watered as he knelt in front of his new friend. He loved giving head, so what was the harm?
And, technically, this was still Greg’s cock—even if it was longer and thicker now. He drew the man’s meat into his mouth and sucked him.

Synopsis: Ellis McGowan, a child psychiatrist, thought he had seen and heard it all, especially with a wife, Jodie, in the same emotionally-draining profession.

Excerpt:
“Tomorrow is going to be a long day.”
“Why don’t we just tell them to mind their own business?!”
Alex rolled over on his own bed, giving Zack his back and keeping an eye on the door. They remained silent for a few minutes, Alex too drained to continue. “Has this really happened to us?” He eventually asked.
“Has what happened?”
“Have we become so defensive that we cannot even tolerate a kind act?”
“What’s kind about it?” Zack growled. “They just want information out of us!”
“And if they do? So what? You don’t need to tell them anything about you if you don’t want to! And what does it matter what they find? The place is gone, everyone is gone; you’ve already said that yourself!”
“Do you know what they’ll do to us when they find out?” Zack sat up, his entire body rigid as he glared at the other who refused to look at him.
Alex shut his eyes; he didn’t dare think anymore.
“Isn’t this what happened last time? We got an offer of a better life than what we had and it got a lot better didn’t it?” Zack’s words began bleeding sarcasm the more riled up he got. Pain was shooting up his back and he was getting so increasingly frustrated at the other that no pain was deterring him.
“We were seven!”
“So at seventeen don’t you think we should better?” Zack glared at the other boy’s back, “And what is with you all of sudden? All this abrupt positivity like the past ten years didn’t happen; it’s not like you!”
Alex squeezed his eyes shut tightly, a firm feeling fitted into his throat, keeping him from even croaking out the words, “He’s coming.”
There was a firm knock on the door before it opened, Ellis looked from one boy to the other sternly before his features softened, “Is everything alright in here? I thought I heard shouting.”
“We were just talking.” Zack told him.
“Loudly.” Alex added.
“Anything you’d like to share?”
Alex answered before Zack even inhaled to respond, “Not particularly.”
Ellis nodded in acceptance but entered the room a little more, holding up a pile of clothing in his hands before placing it at the foot of Alex’s bed. “Something for you both to sleep in until we can get something in your size.” They seemed surprised as they glanced at him, he didn’t miss it however brief it was. “Come and find us if you need anything.” He went to pull the door shut behind him, “Goodnight, boys.”
When the door closed Zack sat up briskly, taking his t-shirt and jeans off to replace them with the lighter clothing the older man had left them with. He walked over to the other who had not moved at all, pulling the sheets down from underneath his body, “You need to relax; clear your head.” He gripped the other’s shoulder, causing him to groan out of nowhere. He slid into the bed with him, half off it; Alex soon took the hint, rolled over and placed his head on his shoulder, allowing his breathing to regulate finally.

Book Review: The Last Grand Master by Andrew Q. Gordon
The Last Grand Master
by Andrew Q. Gordon
M/M Fantasy
Book 1 of Champions of the Gods
Dreamspinner Press
Review Copy from Netgalley
4.5 Stars
Blurb:
In a war that shook the earth, the Six gods of Nendor defeated their brother Neldin, god of evil. For the three thousand years since, Nendor and the Seven Kingdoms have known peace and prosperity.
But then a new wizard unleashes the power of Neldin. Meglar, wizard king of Zargon, uses dark magic to create an army of creatures to carry out his master's will.
One by one, the sovereign realms fall. Soon the only wizard who can stop Meglar is Grand Master Farrell, the Prince of Haven, the hidden home of refugees. An untried wizard, Farrell carries a secret that could hold the key to defeating Meglar—or it could destroy the world.
While helping Nerti, queen of the unicorns, Farrell saves Miceral, an immortal muchari warrior the Six have chosen to be Farrell's mate. But Farrell approaches love with caution, and before he can decide how to proceed, Meglar invades a neighboring kingdom. Farrell and Miceral find themselves in the middle of the battle. Farrell pushes himself to the limit as he and Miceral fight not only to stop Meglar but for their very survival.
Review:
This was a wonderful, romantic adventure tale. This is epic fantasy at its best. The reader is thrust straight into the action, as one of the first scenes is Farrell going to help at the request of the unicorns and during the battle he meets his mate, the one who the gods have chosen for him. Miceral is one of the Muchari, immortal warriors - I suppose something like elves, but there are no pointy ears here.
Farrell is surprised that Miceral is his mate, he is very insecure with anything other than magic and wonders what Miceral might see in him, a human wizard who does not have the build of a warrior or a warrior's skill. But it is his magic that saves the neighbouring kingdom and the life of his mate. Throughout the book, Miceral is always trying to build up his confidence whenever Farrell starts to doubt himself and Miceral's love for him.
The world building is great, with lots of details dotted here and there, without it becoming overwhelming and distracting from the story. I loved Miceral and Farrell but I was just a bit surprised how quickly they came to profess love for the other. Yes, the gods had ordained that these two were destined for one another, but it would have been nice to have a bit more tension before the two of them get together. There was a little bit at the beginning when Miceral's father, Horgon, objects that Farrell is unworthy of his son because he is human, but it seemed to get resolved very quickly. The main obstacle in their way is the fact that Meglar is getting bolder and Farrell is nowhere ready to face him yet. As the last grand master wizard, it is up to Farrell.
The love scenes are not very explicit, but you know what's going on and are in no doubt that the two of them are lovers and not just friends. It's more on the sweet side of romance rather than erotic. There are some secrets about Farrell's heritage, which I won't mention here in case of spoilers, but again, it seemed to be revealed too early. Later in the book would have been much better.
The writing flows well and the author sets the scenes with vivid descriptions that pull you into the book. There is magic, excitement, adventure, large-scale battles and characters so real you feel like talking to them, not to mention unicorns. Each character has their part to play, even though the book is told mostly from Farrell's point of view but you don't feel you have missed out on anything.
Despite my few niggles, I did enjoy the book very much and will be looking out for more in this series.

Blurb:
Prince Dashan has been used to getting things his own way, with servants to cater to his every whim. As the crown prince, it is essential that he is protected and he is followed everywhere by his bodyguard, Ryland. Dashan can't even head to a tavern with his friends without Ryland somehow turning up and spoiling his fun.
Dashan disguises himself as a peasant one night and sneaks off to the brothel that he's heard rumours about - a brothel that caters for men who like men. The prince finds it difficult to admit to himself what his true desires are - he yearns to submit his will to someone else. And Ryland is just the man to show him what that truly means.
Excerpt:
Prince Dashan surveyed himself in the looking-glass, turning this way and that to see if the disguise would hold out. If he’d paid more attention to his magical arts studies, he could probably have used a glamour, but he didn’t know any of the more complex incantations, so he had to rely on more old-fashioned methods. He’d dusted his fair hair and face with ash from the fire, although there wasn’t much he could do about the bright blue hue of his eyes, he just hoped with the hood of his cloak drawn over his head and the dirt on his face it would be enough.
The leather trousers and jerkin he wore were grimy with dirt and creased with age, so much so that their colour was indeterminate. A rough, home-spun shirt and a pair of scuffed brown leather boots completed his ensemble.
“How do I look?” Dashan turned to his little brother, who was staring at him, mouth agape and eyes agog at Dashan’s transformation from spoiled prince to peasant in such a short space of time.
“You’re not really sneaking out tonight, are you?” asked Aniel. “What if Captain Ryland catches you again? Father won’t be happy with you.”
“I’ve no intention of getting caught this time. Why do you think I’m wearing this disguise?” Dashan’s face darkened as he thought of Captain Ryland. Just because he was captain of the King’s men-at-arms, he seemed to think that meant that he was the boss of the princes too. Officially, he was Captain of the Guards, unofficially he was Dashan’s bodyguard and Dashan railed at that fact. Everywhere he turned, there was Ryland getting in his way and preventing him from having any fun. Dashan couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen his friends or even visited a tavern without Ryland tagging along or turning up. He put a pall on everything, like a mourner mistakenly turning up for a wedding feast rather than a funeral.
“What about the Alradai? If there are any of their spies about, you could be in serious trouble. That’s why Father wanted you to have a bodyguard in the first place. You could start an international incident if you get kidnapped. The Alradai would love to have the crown prince as a hostage. They’d like nothing better for us to be at war again.”
“No one’s going to know I’m a prince,” said Dashan, frowning. “I’m just an ordinary peasant out to enjoy an evening at the tavern.”
“And maybe a wench or two, eh?” Aniel winked at him.
“Maybe,” Dashan agreed, although he knew he was lying to himself and his brother. For a long while he’d suspected that the female form wasn’t where his interest lay. Instead of spying on the maids like his brothers sometimes did, Dashan was often to be found watching the soldiers and men-at-arms at their drills. He much preferred it in the summer when they would remove their armour and shirts, practicing their arms in little more than their kilts. It was strong, firm chests Dashan dreamed of, not flowery scents and softness. He wanted someone strong, someone forceful, someone so passionate that they forgot he was a prince and just ravished him. The trouble was that the only person he could imagine being as forceful as that was Ryland. Dashan scowled, he doubted Ryland had a passionate bone in his body. He was just annoying. Dashan couldn’t wait to be rid of him. Ryland riled him like no one else could.
No one thought it odd that the crown prince spent so much in the men’s company, after all once he was king, they would be his men to command and his father just thought he was being friendly to the men who would serve him. The trouble was, Dashan wanted to be more than friendly. He wanted much more, but the castle was a hotbed of gossip, so there was no one he could approach without word of it getting back to his father. He’d heard that in the lower city there were places you could go to, pleasure houses that catered to every patron’s whim, male or female.
Dashan knew what he wanted and tonight he was going to get it.
